Preventive services are casework and supportive services provided to children and their families to help keep families together.  Preventive Services is a partnership between families and caseworkers to work toward common goals in an effort to assist with identifying and strengthening skills and resources.  Preventive caseworkers are either office based or work within local elementary schools through the Preventive School Partnership Program (PSAP) to assess the need for and provide services. They coordinate referrals and services between the families, schools, Department of Social Services and other community agencies.

Services to children and families may include:

  • Parent education, support and resources
  • Family support worker services
  • Emergency shelter, food, clothing or other essential items to avert out of home foster care placement
  • Connecting families to community programs and resources

Preventive Services are provided without regard to income.
