The Clinton County Board of Health was created in 1954 by the Clinton County Board of Supervisors under New York State Public Health Law.

The Board of Health has at least seven members appointed by the Clinton County Board of Legislators. Members must live in Clinton County, or in cases can be a resident of a neighboring county. The Board includes at least one physician and two other healthcare providers licensed in New York State, such as Nurse Practitioners (NPs) or Physician Assistants (PAs). It also includes one County Legislator, three members of the public, and one member representing the City of Plattsburgh. The City representative is chosen from candidates recommended by the Mayor or the City’s administrative leader.

The Board of Health helps the Clinton County Health Department carry out its vision of Healthy People in a Healthy Community.  It also supports the Health Department’s mission to Improve and Protect the Health, Safety, Well-Being, and Environment of Clinton County Residents.

The Board does this by creating and enforcing rules and regulations that follow New York State Public Health Law and State and County Sanitary Codes.

Membership is determined by New York State Health Department regulations and members are appointed for 6 year terms by the Clinton County Legislature.
